Keurig Tips

I love coffee.  The hotter and stronger the better.  I love trying different kinds, blends, and flavors.  That’s why I love my Keurig!

I got it as a Christmas gift from my wife and daughters a couple of years ago.  At the time I was grinding beans and making a half pot every morning.  I was wasting a lot of coffee and time.  Now, I brew a cup on my way out the door each morning.

To keep your Keurig running great be sure to keep it clean.  Wipe down the outside often and descale it every couple of months.  I have a reminder set up in my phone so I never forget.

As I mentioned earlier, I like my coffee hot.  Whenever I order it at a coffee shop I’ll always order it extra hot.  If that’s how you like yours be sure and set your Keurig to the hottest temperature setting. Another thing I do is to “pre-warm” my mug by microwaving some water in it for 2 minutes.  It takes the chill out of the mug and will keep your coffee hotter longer.

One of the best things about having a Keurig are the the many different varieties of K-Cups out there.  Pretty much any kind of coffee you could want, teas, iced teas, hot cocoa, apple cider, lemonade, and many more.

With so many choices it’s best to find a few friends that also have a Keurig and start an informal K-cup club.  You can each buy a box of something different and share with each other.  Having a group of 3 works out great because many are packaged in boxes of 12 and 18 making it easy to divide.

By doing this you can try more varieties quicker and if you find something you don’t like you’ll only be stuck with a few instead of a whole box.

Some of my favorites include:

Dunkin’ Dark

Obsidian from Caribou

Dark Magic from Green Mountain

Revv

Dark Sumatra from Starbucks

Snapple Iced Teas

What are some of your favorites?  Have any Keurig tips of your own? I’d love to hear them.

  1. I’m kind of cheap too but kcups are something I splurge on. I do have 2 different reuseable kcups. The first didn’t work so well. The second worked ok. I should do some more experimenting with it to see if I could get it to brew a cup I like. I couldn’t get it to make it strong enough.

    1. Good tip. The only time doesn’t get used is when we go away for the weekend. Not sure I’ve tried that coffee but it sounds like something I would enjoy. Thanks for sharing.
