There’s so much negativity going on in the world right now that I thought I’d try to counteract it with the following list.  Feel free to add your own ideas in the comments.

27 Low Or No Cost Things You Can Do To Be Nice

  1. Smile.
  2. Open/hold the door for someone.
  3. Give praise about a store employee to the manager.
  4. Invite someone to go to church with you.
  5. Call a friend you haven’t talked to in awhile.
  6. Have someone with fewer items than you to go ahead of you at the checkout line.
  7. Let someone merge in traffic.
  8. Send a “thinking of you” text.
  9. Drop your change into the tip jar.
  10. Wave at people you pass.
  11. Give a compliment.
  12. Become a volunteer.
  13. Offer to watch a friend’s children for an evening.
  14. Invite someone over for a home cooked meal.
  15. Let a friend borrow a book from your personal library.
  16. Add some change to an expired parking meter.
  17. Notice someone couldn’t make it to one of their kid’s events? Take a picture of their kid at the event and send it to them.
  18. Leave coupons you won’t use next to the corresponding items in the grocery store.
  19. Give your garden extras to a neighbor or local food pantry.
  20. Take a plate of cookies to new neighbors.
  21. Give blood.
  22. Use someone’s name in conversation with them.
  23. Bring a meal to a friend.
  24. Recommend a favorite podcast to a friend, explaining why they might like it.
  25. Be a good listener.
  26. Give a hug to someone that needs it.
  27. Leave change at a water fountain or wishing well so the next person to visit is guaranteed a wish.

  1. Nice stuff here. I never thought of a bunch of these. One that particularly stuck out was the one about the coupons at the grocery store. As the food shopper in the house, I could and should do this.
