20 Foods I Want To Try

It’s no secret that I love food.  I love to cook it… and I love to eat it.

I’m always watching food videos online.  There’s one particular video that I’ve watched many times.  It’s something I’ve never had before but have always wanted to try.

That video and the dish it shows being prepared got me thinking about some other foods I want to try.  It lead to this list.

20 Foods I Want To Try

Crawfish Boil – This is the food that led to this list. I’ve never had crawfish before but I’m betting I’d like it.  The idea of sitting around a table in front of a pile of food sounds fun.  I bet I’d enjoy the experience of this meal with family and friends as much as the food.

Liver and Onions – This dish gets a bad rap… and I’d like to see if it deserves it.  I like onions so I already know I’ll like part of it.

Sushi – I tried “sushi” once at a mega-buffet but I’m pretty sure it wasn’t good sushi.  I’d like to go to a real sushi place with someone that knows what’s good and can show me what to order.

Pheasant – I think I might have had this once when I was a kid but don’t remember it.

Buffalo Burger – This is another one that I think I’ve eaten as a kid but don’t remember.

Spaghetti Squash – I’m not a fan or regular squash.  It’s a little too sweet for me… but I’d be willing to give this a try sometime.

Anchovy Pizza – I love pizza… so why not try this once, right?

Caviar – I’ve heard this is slightly salty.  I like salty foods so there’s a chance I’d like fish eggs.

Escargot – I know garlic is used to make this interesting dish of snails.  I like garlic.

Pho – I’ve had friends share pictures recently of pho and it looked awesome.  I think I need to hit up the restaurant they frequent to try this Vietnamese soup.

Lobster Roll – I’ve only had lobster a handful of times but loved it. I’m betting I’d enjoy this.

Tamales – I think it’s interesting how this dish is prepared in corn husks.

Portobello Mushroom Burger – My oldest daughter and I love mushrooms and have talked about grilling some of these the past few Summers.  We need to quit talking about it and just do it.

Zucchini Noodles – We eat a lot of pasta in our house. I think it would be interesting to try some of our favorite sauces with spirally sliced zucchini noodles.

Poutine – There was a vendor selling this last year at the Iowa State Fair and I didn’t get any.  I need to change that at the next fair. Fries, gravy, cheese curds… this sounds like my kind of dish.

Eggs Benedict – I’ve seen this on the menu at many places that serve breakfast but I’ve never ordered it.

Fried Green Tomatoes – There are some tomato dishes that I like more than others.  I’m curious to see how this would rank with me.

Frog Legs – When I was a kid we took a family vacation to Branson with family friends.  One of them ordered frog legs. That was my first exposure to frog legs. I’m curious what they taste like.

Bagel and Lox – I’m a big bagel fan… and I like salmon… so there’s a chance I’ll like this.

Oysters on the Half Shell – I’ve tried oyster stew before and didn’t really care for it.  I’m interested to see if I would like this way of eating oysters better.

  1. Oh my goodness. I’ve tried all of the items you’ve got one your list. Some of them like poutine I eat regularly. Pho? Weekly. Frog legs? Sort of like a sweeter chicken meat.
Try them. They’re all great! Except anchovie pizza. Too salty.

  2. I’m surprised how many of the things on your list I have had as I don’t consider myself an adventurous eater. Liver and onions – I love it! But you have to cook the liver quickly and don’t overcook it. I used to make it semi-regularly until John had his heart attack and they said it was bad for cholesterol. Pheasant was our typical Thanksgiving meal – I don’t think I ever had turkey growing up. And it was also John’s typical Thanksgiving meal. We never had it after we were married though as John was not a hunter. Spaghetti squash – it doesn’t really have much taste and needs things with it. I prefer many of the casseroles I have using it as opposed to using it like spaghetti. If you want one – I have several in my basement! I grow it. Portobello mushrooms – they are very yummy as burgers, but I also have several recipes for stuffed ones that I love. One is a summer dish – you grill the mushroom then fill it with tomatoes and cheese. But my favorite is a risotto stuffing. Fried green tomatoes – for the best you want the tomato to have barely started to ripen – not totally green. Very yummy! I had them lots as a kid. Have fun trying your new foods.
