I’m taking part in a blogging challenge! If you missed part 1 you can find it here.
It’s funny how the mind works. I watched a little bit of the NHL game last night where the Chicago Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup. It was the first hockey I had watched all season long. To be honest I didn’t even really watch that much last night.
In the middle of the night when I was half awake and half asleep my mind/dream drifted to an old Chicago Blackhawks hat I once had.
Here’s the whole story. In May 1991 there were a few weeks jam packed with significant events in my life. There was prom, my last day of high school, baccalaureate, graduation, and our senior class trip.
The senior class trip is where the hat enters the picture. It was a whirlwind 24 hour trip to Chicago. We saw all the sites and had a blast. There was even some time for shopping.
I figured since I was in Chicago I should pick up a Blackhawks hat. It fit great and became favorite hat of mine. It followed me to college and made a couple of moves after that.
During one of our moves my wife asked if I wanted to get rid of it. I tend to have a hard time letting go of things so I convinced her to let me keep it. So into a bag with a few other hats it went. That was over 17 years ago and that’s where it stayed.
In my middle of the night daze that hat entered my mind. Did I still have it? I thought I knew where it was stashed away in our laundry room. Knowing I’d be unable to sleep until I checked on the hat I got up.
Sure enough, it was right where I thought it was. Still sleepy, and feeling somewhat comforted by finding the hat, I got back in bed to fall asleep remembering those few weeks back in May of 1991.Everybody needs his memories. I know she’s really busy but I wonder if Kathryn at The Kathryn Joy blog will join in this challenge.
