The Iowa Caucuses are less than a week away. Anyone living in the state can’t escape the never ending news stories and campaign ads.
They’re everywhere! TV, radio, newspapers, billboards, the internet… you can’t get away from them.
I’m not going to lie. I’m really not excited about the Iowa Caucuses. I’ve been having a mental debate with myself about if I should even attend.
As an American I know I should participate in the system. As an Iowan I know I should take pride in our first in the nation status and should participate to keep it.
The thing is there really isn’t a candidate that I like. None that I’m excited to get behind. To see how my views align with the candidates I went to the internet and landed at www.ontheissues.org and took their quiz.
Answer 20 questions covering 4 different political areas and you’ll see how you match up with the presidential hopefuls. I found my results really interesting.
The rest of my family took the quiz too and none of us lined up with the same candidate. It was a fun experiment and led to a good discussion with our kids about how my wife and I feel about certain political issues.
The funniest part of the discussion was when my youngest came upon one of the topics: Pathway to citizenship for illegal aliens. “Aliens can become citizens? Cool!” She now knows the difference between a space alien and an illegal alien. 🙂
I still don’t have a candidate that I really want to get behind… but there are a few I know I’m against. Maybe I’ll go support someone opposing them. Just a thought. I still have a little time to think about it.
