Most Sunday mornings you can find me at the back of our Church with a friend of mine. Together, with a few other folks, we run the audio visuals for our service.
It’s fun to do and is a way to utilize the skills I have for the good of the Church. Unfortunately, it can also make Sunday sometimes feel like I’m going to a part-time job instead of a service.
That’s why I enjoy a Sunday every once in awhile when I can attend a service somewhere else. When I can feel like I’m worshipping instead of working.
Today was different. Our family spent the day with my in-laws. It was my Father-in-law’s birthday and he wanted us to attend Church with them. Such an easy and simple gift. How could we say no?
I walked away from the service thinking I was the one who actually received the gift. I was inspired by the service and the message. It was great to worship without any expectations.
The funny thing is… even though I wasn’t helping out with the service this morning… I couldn’t help but see some of the things they were doing in the way of A/V and want to take the ideas back to my home Church.
One of my favorite things about attending my in-law’s Church is the benediction said in unison by the congregation:
“Wherever we are, God has put us there. God has a purpose in us being there. Christ who lives in us has something he wants to do through us where we are. We believe this and we go in grace, love, and power.”
That simple statement is a message that hits me every time and makes me think!
Today was a good reminder that a break from any routine is not only good… but can also be inspiring.
