Where’s the Common Courtesy?

I’ve noticed a frustrating trend.  The general lack of common courtesy and respect for others at movies, concerts, and live events.

We spent this weekend at a dance competition and I was appalled at everyone who just came and went as they pleased blocking the view of people who wanted to watch the performances.  Each one lasted a maximum of four minutes.  They could have waited and slipped in and out between dances.

I’ve seen it at the movie theater too.  The group that arrives five minutes after the show has started and stands up front looking for a place to sit.  Then takes a poll with each other about which seats are best.  Here’s a thought… take the closest seats and enjoy the show.

Am I just a cranky old guy or have you noticed it too?  What lacks in common courtesy have you witnessed at events?

Patriotic or Just Plain Awful?

The 2014 NASCAR Nationwide Series season started with an interesting version of the National Anthem by Madison Rising.  It’s certainly different than any version I’ve heard before.  So different that I’m not exactly sure how I feel about it. In case you missed it here it is:

Some would argue they added a touch of creativity to a song we’ve all heard and sung hundreds of times.  Others would say that the National Anthem is one song that shouldn’t be messed with.

Lead singer Dave Bray, a U.S. Navy Veteran, had this to say about the band’s performance, ”Yes, we took some liberties, but we were already taking some liberties with it musically and melodically. We wanted to make it a rock song people could sing and enjoy. The reverence is still there, but it has sort of taken on the death march in a way. It’s very sullen and sung in a very sullen way. We thought it should be more of a celebratory rock anthem.”

So what do you think about Madison Rising’s version and performance of the National Anthem?  Cool? Different? Unpatriotic? Just plain awful? Let’s hear your thoughts?

In the event the version above left you needing to hear the National Anthem sung in a more traditional way this should do the trick:

Thank You

Today marks exactly 2 months since I started this blog.  I wanted to take a moment to thank you!  Thank you for reading.  Thank you for sharing your thoughts.  Thank you for your support.  Every bit has helped grow my audience.

Six months ago doing this was simply a dream.  One that I wasn’t sure I could pull off.  That dream turned into a goal and like any good goal it has challenged me… but that challenge has been good.

I’ve learned so much.  Wordpress, Google Analytics, and website design are all things I learn more about everyday.

Social Marketing and using it to promote this site has become an interest.  There are many other channels out there besides Facebook and Twitter.  Google Plus, Instagram, Pinterest,  StumbleUpon, Tumblr… I’m having fun experimenting with them all.

If there are topics you’d like to see me cover that fall under the categories of faith, family, or technology let me know.  I’m always looking for new things to write about.

As I continue on my blogging journey I’d like to challenge you.  If there’s a dream you have but haven’t acted on… just do it.  Stop listening to that negative voice in your head and just start.  I’m glad I did!
