It seems like every week there’s a new way to communicate with family and friends. There’s Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, texting, and who-knows-what next week?
With all these ever-evolving ways to keep in touch touch it seems that actual phone calls have fallen out of fashion. I’ll admit it. Many times I’d rather just text instead of talking.
Tonight wasn’t one of those times. Tonight I spent my commute home talking to a friend on the phone. It was great to catch up; to celebrate the good things going on and offer encouragement when needed.
If it’s been awhile since you’ve called a friend you text often or communicate with through social media… I’d encourage you to pick up the phone and give them a call. I can almost guarantee you’ll be glad you did.
In the spirit of good friendships and communication I offer up Proverbs 27:17 (NLT) as the this week’s Bible verse.
“As iron sharpens iron,
so a friend sharpens a friend.”
Today was a good day. I soaked in a little sunshine while watching my youngest daughter’s softball team play 3 games. They lost one, tied one, and won one.
They’re playing better as a team and I can see real progress in all of them. Most importantly, I can see them all listening to the coaches and having fun together.
The weather today was a plus. Nothing like the cold, windy, and miserable conditions of their first games this season. By the start of the second game today the sun was out and there was a warm breeze.
It wasn’t annoying but it was constant at our backs… about 15 – 20 miles per hour. On the drive home as I felt the warmth radiating from my slightly sunburnt face and legs I thought about the wind. I remembered that I hadn’t done a Bible verse of the week yet.
There are several references to wind in the Bible but this week I chose to share John 3:8 (NLT).
“The wind blows wherever it wants. Just as you can hear the wind but can’t tell where it comes from or where it is going, so you can’t explain how people are born of the Spirit.”
OK. I know this is supposed to be a Wordless Wednesday post but I’m going to break the rules to give you the backstory of the above picture.
A few weeks ago I found a four leaf clover. I shared a picture of it on Instagram and Facebook. If you haven’t already liked my Facebook page or followed me on Instagram be sure and do so. I share other things there that don’t make it into the blog. 🙂
Here’s the picture and my comment at the time:
“As I rolled the trash to the road tonight I noticed a patch of clover in our yard. On the way back to the house I felt compelled to stop and look at it. Within seconds I found this four leaf clover & it made me smile. Thanks, Lucile!”
My oldest daughter pressed that four leaf clover I found and framed it with a Bible verse. She gave it to me when I got home from work tonight. It’s a special gift for 3 reasons:
- My daughter made it.
- It reminds me of Lucile.
- It was an unexpected surprise.
Can’t wait to hang it up in my office at work!
