Weekly Verse – Be Kind & Compassionate

I’ve seen lots of aggression, frustration, and confrontation today. I’ve seen it in my Facebook and Twitter feeds.  I witnessed it in traffic and in a crowded grocery store.

Perhaps the reason it seemed extra noticeable today is because Donald Trump officially became the 45th President of the United States of America.  It was the culmination of years of campaigning… much of it with a hostile tone.

Now that the election and inauguration are over I hope that we can all take a deep breath and move forward. That we can leave the nastiness behind us.  That instead of focusing on the negative in others that we can look for the good in everyone.

As I reflect on the past few months and pray for our future, Ephesians 4:31-32 (NIV) seems like a great place to start.

Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.  Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.

Weekly Verse – Focus

My mind is racing.  So many ideas.  So many potential topics to cover. So many thoughts I want to get out that I’ve been having trouble narrowing down what I should write about… and how I’d tie it to a weekly Bible verse.

That’s when it hit me!  I needed to focus.  I needed to repeat my mantra for 2017.  Slow down.  Take a deep breath… and focus.

It lead me to 1 Peter 5:8 (NLT).

Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.
